What is Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) Scheme?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has envisioned that when India will celebrate 75 years of independence in 2022, people should have a reason to celebrate it. His aim is to deliver pucca houses to those belonging to weaker sections. In order to complete this task, he launched Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme on 25th June 2016. Under this scheme, the government will help people in purchasing a pucca house fitted with facilities like toilet, water and 24*7 power supply.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed all the officials, who are a part of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme to offer the entire package of amenities and benefits to the poor in rural areas. Be it water and gas connection or even drinking water supply, he wants everything within reach to the poor, buying homes under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
In a meeting with secretaries recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked officials to merge all the beneficiary-oriented schemes and programmes, such as rural electrification, rural drinking programme and Ujjwala to the houses that are being developed under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Rural scheme. PM Narendra Modi has also asked officials to keep a tab on the progress on the PMAY.
The current BJP government had set a target to construct 3 crores homes for the poor belonging to the rural areas by 2022. The recent intervention by PM Narendra Modi is to ensure that the houses built under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in the rural areas are not merely structures but should have facilities, such as 24×7 electricity supply, water connection and toilets among others.
At the time of launching Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that the scheme is aimed to bring the change in the lives of the poor in the rural areas.
For the urban areas, the government has a target to construct 1.2 crores homes for the people belonging to the poor category in the time frame of four years.
