You might be thinking that by purchasing a new home, you have fought and won a battle, but my friend, the actual battle of shifting to your new habitat is yet to fight. You must be sitting at one of the corners of your older home and thinking of what to pack and what to leave behind. And amidst all this, suddenly the final day of relocating will come. So, before you move to your new house, read this blog and plan accordingly for your D-Day.
1) Change the Locks
The minute your closing deal is over, and you can call that house your own, replace the locks of exterior doors with the new one. The reason is you can never get assured whether the previous owner, the broker, the home guard or who else can have the keys of your house. Before any mishap takes place with you, get the new locks installed.
2) Paint the Walls and Ceilings
While you move into your new space, it is really necessary to whitewash the whole house. It is a good opportunity to see the actual condition of the walls and ceilings. Plus, you can also get all the holes, cracks and other defects fixed and damages repaired. As the task is hectic and time-consuming, so consider hiring professionals, who can style your home without leaving a gap.
3) Inspect Plumbing Leaks
In a country like India, it is often seen that developers don’t give much damn to the plumbing leaks. Therefore, it becomes necessary to inspect any seepage. Check all the washbasins, running toilets and dripping faucets, and get them repaired if you find any leakage. Slowly, but surely, even a slightest of seepage will destroy your entire home.
4) Call Pest Control
Calling pest control experts is mandatory especially if your new house was used earlier by the previous owner or the place was unlived for a long time. In both conditions, there is a huge possibility that your home can be a playground for all sorts of nocturnal pests and awful creepies. We are pretty sure that you don’t want to start your new phase of life amidst insects and bugs.
5) Update Friends, Family and Service Providers About the Shift
Now when you are acclimatised to your new house, it is time now to update all your friends, family members and service providers that you have shifted to a new place. In fact, notify your landline company, bank, insurance company, credit card company, and others with an e-mail or text message stating your new address. Obviously, you don’t wish to get struck into another trouble as you forgot to inform people about your move.
6) Greet Your Neighbours
With the new house, new city and new state come new challenges. You must be unfamiliar with the new surroundings and new locality. Being a courteous neighbour, you should take initiative to reach them and say, “Hi, I am your new neighbour”. It will do nothing but simply break the ice between you and your neighbours, and help you in coping to the new place in a better way.
We know that shifting to a new home is a painstaking and tedious task, and undoubtedly needs a lot of effort. But then, you have to face the reality. There are many out there who have eagerly waited for this day to come in their life. So, plan for your one of the memorable days long before, so that you can minimise restlessness as much as you can.
