The people of Uttar Pradesh (UP) can never ask for a better gift this New Year as the government of Uttar Pradesh has decided to commence metro service in Kanpur, Agra and Meerut cities by 2024. The estimated cost of this entire metro project is ₹43800 crores said Sidharth Nath Singh, state cabinet minister in a meeting held in Lucknow on 17th January 2018.
To bring cheers and relief in the lives of the residents of Kanpur, Agra and Meerut, the cabinet minister has assured the people that the metro project in UP will be completed in the stipulated time period of 2024. The Meerut city will be blessed with a 33-km long metro corridor that is estimated to be built at a cost of around ₹13800 crores. The construction of Meerut Metro will not just bring a change in the lives of the people living Meerut but will also bring a boom in the real estate due to its popularity and proximity to Delhi.

Renowned throughout the country for its industries and commercial activity, Kanpur will be another city to get the metro connectivity after Lucknow. Kanpur Metro will be constructed on a budget of ₹17000 crores. It will be a 30-km long metro network and feature 31 metro stations. The city ranks second after Lucknow in terms of population, hence, the starting of Kanpur Metro is not less than a boon here. Being the commercial and industrial capital of Uttar Pradesh (UP), the city sees a huge number of footfall every day and hence, remains congested throughout the year. It is because of this fact that most stations in this Kanpur Metro project will be underground.
